The Fremont Area Joint Planning Committee, on behalf of the City of Fremont, Dayton Township, Sheridan Charter Township and Sherman Township was selected to participate in the second round of the Partnerships for Change program. During this project, three of the four jurisdictions formed a Joint Planning Commission under Michigan Public Act 226 of 2003.  This is one of only a few joint planning commissions in the state.

The Fremont Community has a long history of working together on multi-jurisdictional land use planning efforts including extensive 425 negotiations and the development and adoption of the Fremont Area Joint Comprehensive Development and Growth Management Plan. In addition, each jurisdiction in the partnership has identified the need to provide for multi-jurisdictional smart growth planning techniques that work to preserve the abundant natural and historic resources throughout the Fremont Community.

Please visit the Fremont Community project web site for more information.

Community Update: The Fremont Area Joint Planning Committee (minus Sherman Township) have recently completed the first full draft of a new community-wide comprehensive plan. Community officials hope to begin formal adoption procedures by December of 2008.
