The Marquette Community -- comprised of Ely Township, Humboldt Township, Republic Township, Champion Township, Ishpeming Township, Marquette Township, Negaunee Township, the City of Marquette, the City of Negaunee, and the City of Ishpeming -- was selected during the first round of Partnerships for Change projects. During this project, LIAA staff assisted with the creation of a report that provided information on the feasibility and possible management entities for an Iron Ore Heritage Area.
Community Update: The project partners have worked together to formally establish a nine-jurisdiction Recreation Authority. The Recreation Authority has since received grant funding to build portions of the Heritage Trail Network and install artwork along the trail.
