The Marquette Community, comprised of Ely Township, Humboldt Township, Republic Township, Champion Township, Ishpeming Township, Marquette Township, Negaunee Township, the City of Marquette, the City of Neguanee, and the City of Ishpeming, was selected during the first round of Partnerships for Change projects. During this project, LIAA staff assisted with the creation of a report that provided information on the feasibility and possible management entities for an Iron Ore Heritage Area.
Community Update: The project partners have worked together to formally establish a 9-jurisdiction Recreation Authority. The Recreation Authority has since received grant funding to build portions of the Heritage Trail Network and install artwork along the trail.
