WelcomeThe Village of Suttons Bay and Suttons Bay Township have found that intergovernmental teamwork is necessary to assure the future of cultural and natural resources. From the downtown, to area parks, to regional farmland, thoughtful multi-jurisdictional planning and land use decisions are critical to the vitality of the community. With this in mind, the two jurisdictions have applied for and received a Partnerships for Change - Sustainable Communities grant to form a Joint Planning Commission and to develop a Joint Master Plan that sets the direction for future land use in the area.
On February 24, 2009 the Suttons Bay Community Joint Planning Commission (SBCJPC) held its first meeting to discuss the development of the Joint Master Plan. The SBCJPC is one of only a few Joint Planning Commissions in the state. Given their history of cooperation and interdependent relationship, forming a Joint Planning Commission and developing a shared Master Plan only seemed to make sense.
Partnerships for Change - Sustainable Communities is a program that provides grants of professional planning support and technical assistance to townships, cities and villages for cooperative efforts that contribute to the preservation of cultural and natural resource. The Partnerships for Change - Sustainable Communities program is managed by LIAA and sponsored by the Michigan Townships Association, Michigan Municipal League, Michigan Association of Planning, and Michigan State University Extension.
This website serves as the community's resource for the joint planning commission and Master Plan development process. Through this website, residents, business owners, local officials, and all interested citizens have direct access to the latest project news. In addition, all are welcome to provide feedback under the "Participate" tab where you will find an online version of the community survey.
